This pre-university course is designed to prepare you for university study. You'll study topics in accounting, economics, computing, mathematics, communications and either management or marketing.
Completion of this course prepares you for entry into our Diploma of Commerce.
Pathway programs are delivered on campus at Curtin Singapore by Curtin College.

Course structure
Credits needed to graduate: 200.
Each unit is 25 credits.
All 8 units must be completed successfully to graduate.
Semester 1

COM201 - Communication I
Assists students to interact, participate & communicate effectively in an academic or employment environment. Unit covers study skills-time management, listening & note taking, with emphasis on writing/structure of paragraphs/essays; use of various types of logical orders of information & patterns of organization; importance of documenting information sources using recognized research/referencing skills to provide support for written arguments. -
BUS100 - Accounting
Provides intro to basic procedures/principles of accounting and acquaints students with its function in business and non-trading enterprises. Students develop general & business literacy skills and recognise the need to process and report financial data responsibly, reliably and with integrity. -
BUS103 - Economics
Key principles of economics, the gains from trade, theory of demand and supply, elasticity and its application, government policies such as price controls and taxes, consumer and producer surplus, externalities, public goods and common resources, costs of production, firms in competitive markets, monopoly and oligopoly. -
BUS107 - Introduction to Computing
The nature and role of information technology in society. The application of office software skills.
Semester 2

COM202 - Communication II
Develops key communications and academic skills necessary to succeed in an academic and professional environment. Topics covered include key communication concepts, teamwork, meetings, reflective writing, critical reading strategies, referencing and report writing. -
BUS104 - Mathematics
Topics in algebra: factorisation, indices, logarithms, surds and solving equations. Functions and their graphical interpretation: domain, range, linear, quadratic and exponential functions, and simultaneous equations. Sequences and series: arithmetic andgeometric sequences and series. Growth and decay: applications, simple and compound interest and annuities. Set theory: union, intersection, subsets, elements of sets, number of elements and Venn diagrams. Numeration systems: decimal and binary number systems. -
BUS108 - Management
Introduces management concepts and examines the present status and future directions of this growing field of study. Specifically, the development of management thought and practices are analysed, along with organizational behaviour concepts and issues. The future of management is considered in the light of social responsibility, international implementations and new directions. -
BUS109 - Marketing
Exposure to fundamental marketing concepts being used within a range of industries, and a clear insight into how these concepts are being applied by practioners in the real world. Introduction to the marketing discipline through topics such as consumer behaviour, marketing research, product planning, and promotion planning, distribution planning, product and service pricing. This unit also assists students to gain an understanding of the influence external environments have upon firms.
