Journalism
This stream has enjoyed an outstanding reputation over many years for preparing students with the skills, understanding and professionalism necessary for a career in the media industry. You will be taught by journalists with many years experience in print, radio and television and learn both the professional aspects of journalism practice and the theoretical understanding of media law and regulation, the history and economics of the media, and ethical and social issues. You can also choose to expand your knowledge by incorporating studies in related media areas, such as film and television and the social sciences (anthropology, history, politics, sociology).
Public Relations
Public relations is concerned with relationship management in all sectors of organisational activity. It aims to assist a business to meet its goals while considering the needs of all stakeholders, be they staff, clients, shareholders, government bodies, suppliers, retailers, the general public or other important groups and individuals. This stream will teach you how to plan, develop, implement and evaluate communication strategies which present an organisation in the best light to public and clients, and promote effective information flow within an organisation. It will prepare you for involvement in primary decision-making and give you the skills to undertake a major communications role.
