Learn how to manage and safeguard the financial transactions of businesses. Combine the skills and knowledge of accounting principles, auditing, taxation, business law and financial management with a working knowledge of the Australian banking system and the environment of business. In this double major you’ll develop a detailed understanding of financial issues which will give you the ability to make productive contributions to your employer early in your career.

Accounting

This major introduces you to accounting principles, auditing, taxation, relevant areas of business law and financial management. You can examine the development and communication of information relating to the financial performance of organisations, learn to prepare reports and give advice on an organisation’s record-keeping and compliance requirements.

Banking

Bankers use their analytical knowledge and skills to help businesses, governments and everyday people find financial solutions. They may arrange personal finances for clients so they can start a new venture, or assist with company finances to expand an existing business.

In this major you will learn about financial markets and institutions. You will study developments and management in the financial sector and will build a working knowledge of the Australian banking and financial system with a broad perspective of the business environment.

You will learn about bank lending, international trade, banking law, and banking practice and management. You will also cover the relevant issues in the financial sector and develop the skills required to keep up with and understand new developments in the field after you graduate.

Professional Recognition

This double major is accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA), and graduates are eligible to apply for associate membership of both professional bodies. Graduates are eligible to enter into the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) program. Graduates are also eligible for membership to The Financial Services Institute of Australasia.
