Group Discussion Room FAQ
3 Group Discussion Rooms (GDRs) are available for booking during library operating hours.
Who can use the GDRs?
- The GDRs are open for use by Curtin Singapore students.
How do I request for the use of the GDRs?
- Booking for the use of the rooms can be made at the Library Counter.
- Bookings may be made in person, by phone (Tel: +65 6593 8050) or via email. If booking is done via email, you will receive an email confirmation. Please print out and bring along for verification.
- Allocation of the rooms is on a first-come-first-served basis.
- Bookings may be made no more than 7 day in advance.
- Bookings will be cancelled after 15 minutes of no show.
How long can I book a GRD?
- The room may be used for a maximum of 6 consecutive hours per day.
- Each student is entitled to maximum 6 hours per week.
- Extensions of time will be given only if other rooms are available for use.
What is the number of users per group?
- The minimum number of users allowed in each GRD is 2 and maximum is 6 at one time.
- Do not take additional chairs into a GDR.
What are the procedures for using GDRs?
- Before using the room, users are required to produce current Curtin Singapore ID Cards for verification at the Library Counter.
- The booking slip must be pasted on the door.
What are the rules for using the GDRs?
- The rooms are not soundproof. If you disturb other users you will be asked to leave.
- Do not leave valuables in the room. Items left unattended in the room for more than 30 minutes will be removed and sent to Lost/Found.
- Eating, drinking, smoking and littering are not allowed in the room.
- Furniture in the room must not be rearranged or removed.
- Users who do not observe the rules may be barred from using the facility.

Document delivery services FAQ
This service supplies photocopies of journals articles and portions of books not available in the Curtin Singapore Library. Turnaround time for such materials is 2-21 days depending on the responsiveness of the suppliers.
Who is eligible for this service?
- Curtin Singapore staff and postgraduate students.
How to request materials?
- Submit the complete request forms to the Library Counter. Please provide accurate and complete citations of items requested.
- For staff: Authorisation from the PVC is required if Academic budget (as applicable) is used for the payment. No approval is required if the requester is paying for the materials.
- For student: Authorisation from the Instructor/Supervisor is required.
Is there a charge for the document delivery service?
- The cost of procuring the materials may vary from time to time and is determined by the supplying institution.
- Staff will pay full cost themselves or through the Academic budget (as applicable).
- Students will be charged at a fraction of the cost for the materials.
- Payment must be made in full before the requested item is released. Payment must be made in cash to the Curtin Singapore Library.

Inter-library loan services (ILL) FAQ
The library staffs arrange inter-library loans with other libraries for materials not available in the Curtin Singapore Library on your behalf.
Who is eligible for ILL?
- The service is offered to academic staff and postgraduate students.
How many requests can I make?
- Each user is limited to ONE inter-library loan requests at any one time. Requests are restricted to materials required for teaching and research purposes.
What are the charges?
- No charges are imposed for local loans. However, library users have to pay for any overdue fines as well as all costs incurred as a result of any damage or loss of the items borrowed. Overdue fines and replacement costs vary with each lending library. Overseas loan charges depend on the ILL fee levied by the lending libraries and the postal charged incurred.
What types of materials are NOT available through this service?
- Reference materials
- Journals
- Audio-Visual materials
- These and project reports
- Any other materials specified by the lending libraries
How do I submit ILL request?
- Before requesting for ILL service, please check the library OPAC to ensure that the Curtin Singapore Library does not have the item.
- Complete the request form obtainable at the Library Counter, giving complete and accurate bibliographic details (title, author, edition, publication, year, etc.)
How long does it take?
- Most items are supplied within a week or ten days, depending on the responsiveness and item availability at the lending libraries. We will notify you when the materials arrive.
How long can materials be borrowed?
- Most libraries lend materials for 2 weeks. Please note the due date and return materials FIVE days before the due date.
Receiving and returning materials.
- Borrowers must pick up / return their own loans in person from / to the Library Counter during its opening hours. DO NOT return materials through Despatch or Book Return Bin.
Can I renew my loans?
- If you wish to renew an item, you should contact the Library staff at +65 6593 8050 or singaporelibary@curtin.edu.sg ONE WEEK before the due date. Please note that we are unable to renew overdue items.
Recalls
- Any items borrowed via ILL are subject to immediate recall. If you are planning to be away for MORE THAN TWO DAYS, please return your loans before going on leave.

Why do I need an ID and password?
You need a Curtin ID and password to use the following Library facilities:
- Checking my library account, such as
- How many itmes you have out on loan and their due dates
- Renewing items you have on loan
- Checking you outstanding library fines, if there is any
- Viewing you loan history information
- Placing reservation on library items
- Accessing E-Reserve, E-Books and E-Journals
- Accessing past exam papars
- Accessing scholarly electronic databases
